SELECT PROJECTS

Selection of projects showcasing my developing artistic practice.

Visibilis

Final Major Project

'Visible' derives from the Latin Visibilis, meaning "that may be seen". Visibilis explores the ways in which technological advancements in the camera provide access to spectrums of light beyond and including the visible, allowing us to reconsider the definition of the Optical Unconscious as coined by theorist Walter Benjamin. The project is a commentary on science and technology, the sublime, and the limitations of human perspective. Visibilis encourages us to question our relationship with the world by offering a new perspective on the universes we can and cannot see. The work was exhibited as part of BA Photography's final major exhibition, and as part of the Specimen Cabinet Exhibition at the Fronteer Gallery, Sheffield.

Souviens-toi de Moi
Remember Me.

Second Year Project

A self-portrait series exploring grief through evocative objects, objects which hold significance due to the circumstances in which they enter our lives. The project comments on the ways in which grief is the only emotion suffered universally, and the ways we navigate grief through symbolism, culture, family traditions and folklore. Souviens-toi de Moi was exhibited in November 2022 as part of D31 Art Gallery's graduate showcase, running until January 2023.

Bloom

Personal Project

A self-portrait series exploring the rose through Greek mythology. The rose was created by Aphrodite, Goddess of Love. They grew from the ground, watered with Aphrodite's tears and the blood of her ill-fated lover Adonis. Today the red rose symbolises romance, the white rose innocence, and the pink rose grace.

Perfect Illusion

Personal Project

A self-portrait series inspired by Lady Gaga's single 'Perfect Illusion', and Baudrillard's simulation theory. Lady Gaga's single is a portrayal of the downfalls of living in the age of social media. It reminded me of Jean Baudrillard's simulation theory, the point of hyperreality where we cannot distinguish between what is real and what isn't. This shares similarities with social media, as we often believe it to be a true reflection of reality.
